Charente

Charente is one of the most beautiful areas to navigate on. On the region's water way, which is about 100 miles long, there are only 21 locks in total. In 1977 a huge restoration program was initiated here which was finished in 1984. Since then it has become possible to navigate easily on the water because high water can now flow off quickly. The water level is more or less equal as a consequence of this.
The Charente River runs smoothly and calmly through woods and meadows.
